CURRENT PROJECTS

Below are the pieces that I contributed to Erik Inkala's going away show at First Amendment. If interested in buying a print, please send me an email (adam@blueapplestudio.com). Click to enlarge

09.16.09

Pulled 8 prints of the black pass tonight. Will clean up the block tomorrow and continue with the remaining 35.

09.13.09

Sketch for my next 4 x 5 inch block print.

Pulled 43 prints of this (to the left) image. Now going to carve the block for the black pass. (Click on image to enlarge.)

09.10.09

09.05.09

Refined the below sketch and got it transferred to the block.

08.13.09

New sketch for a 9x12 inch linoleum print shown below. This will have at least two different ink passes.

The finished painting is pictured below.

Added the black pass to half of the prints today. My registration box met limited success, but I learned lessons for the next time around.

06.15.09

The first color pass of the print has been wrapped; below is an early test. I used green and turquoise inks, adding different amounts of white to play with saturation and brightness.

06.11.09

Here is a rough comp for another piece I'm working on. The figure is from a photo shoot with a friend, and the backdrop is taken from a photo of a mini-golf course in L.A.

06.08.09

The 4x5 inch print "Polaroid" is wrapped (see below.) 23 of the prints were good enough to make the cut, and they've been numbered and signed.

The next design will be a 7x5 inch print. Given this one is a 2-color print, I built a registration box (pictured below.)

05.16.09

I cleaned up portions of the block, and widened some of the gouges as well.

I also bought a new brayer (A.) as my old one (B.) was not rotating freely and wouldn't pick up ink in some spots. I'm not sure if I abused it, or if it is simply a quality issue. The old one was $8 and the new one cost $15.

05.15.09

I've started to pull some test prints, and am going to thicken some of the cuts on the block now.

05.11.09

Finished the majority of the carving, but may do some clean up later. Hope to begin printing today.

05.10.09

Slowly adding detail to the painting, and have started a linoleum block (4 x 5 in.) print.

04.22.09

Added a darker green to the hatching on "Blind Mary." I think that'll do it for that piece.

The acrylic is a new approach to the Nicoise drawing. So far I've just roughed in some lights and darks, but hope to refine it more tonight.

04.04.09 b

Added some more marker, and then thickened up the black lines with a Micron brush pen.

04.04.09 a

The next illustration I am working on is based on the Gnarles Barkley song Blind Mary.

03.15.09

Below are some anaglyph tests I've tried. The gray scale image allows for a more successful 3D effect it seems, while the full color images add confusion to the effect. To make the images I used a gray scale depth map as a displacement in individual color channels. The technique is outlined here.

03.13.09

Here are some photos of a couple of water color pieces that are in progress.
